We have been working again for our great friends at Birmingham Museums Trust
This statue of Joseph Priestley was removed from Chamberlin Square in 2015 and placed in safe storage to protect it during the extensive redevelopment of central Birmingham. Designed by Francis John Williamson (1833-1920) it was originally manufactured in 1874 in marble , but due to significant environmental erosion it was recast in bronze in 1951.
Priestley was a 18th century theologian, clergyman, natural philosopher, educator and political theorist. He lived from 1733 to 1804. The artwork depicts him absorbed in the experiment which led to his discovery of oxygen.
We were commissioned to undertake extensive surface cleaning, repairs, and the reapplication of protective wax coatings
After 10 years away he should be back home soon!
