Bolton and Watt Beam Engine

Engineering Survey of 1786 Bolton and Watt Beam Engine commissioned by National Museums of Scotland, Edinburgh.  This study investigated the engineering component interelationships, design characteristics, alignment and wear.

This engine was designed by Bolton and watt and supplied to Messrs Barclay and Perkins, Brewers of Southwick, London.  In 1796 it was converted to a double action steam cycle by fitting new valve gear, a larger condenser and pump.  The engine was decommissioned and offered to the Museum of Science and Arts in Edinburgh in 1884/5.
