Winchester City Mill stage 2
It has been a very busy month for ICR as we continue with our amazing project at Winchester City Mill.
With all of the disassembly work completed we have now started constructing and installing the main elements that support the waterwheel and primary milling machinery.
Our first task was to fully restore the oak trestles that support the waterwheel main bearings and vertical shaft which also included brickwork and groundworks.
The New Cross winged gudgeons and main bearings for the axle tree have been cast and machined.
Currently we are undertaking the challenging job of profiling the ends of the axle tree to fit up the new gudgeons which is a complex job.
Following on from this we will be profiling the axle tree as we need to change the form along the length from square to round and transition from hexagon to octagon.
Soon we will be installing the new axle tree which will represent and major milestone in this project.
