Winchester City Mill Start Up

This month ICR has started a comprehensive restoration project for our great friends at Winchester City Mill, National Trust.

Returning once again to this wonderful historic watermill we have been commissioned to construct and install a new axletree, waterwheel, 2 sluice gates and the rebuilding of all the timber trestles and beams that support the waterwheel, vertical shaft and milling machinery.

Additional works will include new cogs for the pitwheel, machinery alignment, full commissioning and test milling 

We have just completed the enabling works and disassembly phases which included installing a comprehensive scaffolding design and a 2-axis bespoke crane rail capability to provide safe and efficient object handling.

This week with have taken delivery of a big supply of English oak including a 380mm x 380mm x 4500mm long 700 kg oak beam which we have already manoeuvred into the mill basement – This will be fashioned onsite and will become the new axletree.
