Victorian Lion's Head Drinking Fountain

Complete on-site conservation, cleaning and surface protection of this unique public drinking fountain and supply and fit of a traditional safety notice for Selbourne Parish Council.

Lion's Head Drinking Fountain and Cattle Trough cast in 1879 by Messrs Macfarlane and Co., Prossall Park Foundry Scotland from a design prepared by TP Hall, Portsmouth.  It was a gift to the Village from W Mills, Portsmouth.

Behind the cast iron door is an associated water pump installation manufactured and installed by Clover and Milson Contractors, Basingstoke 1894.

It is suggested that the windmill motifs were added as a visual reference to the donor
