Winchester City Mill - The National Trust

In 2004 The National Trust commissioned ICR to complete an in-depth condition survey and engineering assessment of the mill machinery.

This work informed the long-term operational strategy and was robust enough to support the Trust’s educational and interpretation aspirations.

Following this strategic review ICR were contracted to carry out an extensive programme of works which resulted in City Mill returning to full operational use in 2005.

ICR continues to provide engineering and conservation support to the National Trust at City Mill and have in recent years manufactured and installed a new water wheel, main sluice gates, new stones and re-cogged the spur and pitwheels.

During 2010 ICR contracted to rationalise the internal waterwheel visitor experience by designing and installing enhanced access solutions.

This involved opening up the waterwheel and machinery spaces by redesigning the safety barriers and relocating the viewing platforms and footbridge.
